Community Worker - Peer Mentoring

Main duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver a progressive, tiered peer mentoring framework that empowers prisoners across all areas of the establishment to support individuals who are working at pre-entry level reading or who are unable to read.
- Promoting, coordinating, and implementing the peer mentoring pathway as a core mechanism within the reading strategy.
- Ensuring that peer mentors are effectively trained, supported, and deployed to increase engagement with reading and literacy support across residential units, education, industries, and other activity areas.
- Responsible for hosting one prison wide reading strategy event per quarter.
- Provide structured group support for mentors and learners on a regular basis, fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
- Provide support and supervision for peer mentors, supporting their personal development, motivation, and progression
- Raising the motivation, confidence and achievement levels of those we work with.
- Act as an advocate who will assist in key areas of development, including conflict and mentoring, removing barriers that may impact on the progress.
- Support people to improve their levels of resilience and behaviour for positive engagement.
- Management, development and delivery of a comprehensive face to face curriculum programmes of work.
- Ensure effective planning and evaluation procedures are used to maintain high quality delivery
- Development and delivery of recorded and accredited outcomes for young people where possible
- Coordination, management and delivery of a specific area of work across the entire Kinetic portfolio (e.g. Outdoor Education, Schools, Participation, Travellers, Gangs)
- Ensure effective communication links are developed and maintained with all partners
- Provide timely, accurate and relevant management information as required
- Comply with Kinetic policies which support equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice
Person Specification:
Qualifications
Youth work and community work or related subject.
Experience and skills
- Recent and significant experience of working within a youth and community setting
- Recent and significant experience of management and development of work with young people
- Recent and significant experience of the management, development and delivery of a specialist area of youth work
- Ability to plan, evaluate and review work with young people/adults
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with vulnerable and marginalised young people
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Skilled in the effective recruitment and management of staff
- Sound budget and resource management skills
- Demonstrate good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise work
- Ability to travel on a regular basis in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day between sites across the county
- Competent in use of IT
Knowledge
Issues and legislation relevant to working with young people and communities
Health and Safety, risk assessment and safeguarding procedures relevant to work with young people and communities
Equality of opportunity, including how inequality affects the life chances of young people and their communities
Criminal Justice System as it affects people
You will require an enhanced DBS and undertake prison vetting.
Pay: £24,420.00-£30,700.00 per year
