The Golden Lion in Ashton Hayes is reopened in August 25 following a full major refurbishment and has been voted Cheshire Life Dining Pub of the Year in its first year . We are looking to strengthen our management team . We have created a beloved village pub regarded as a welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike—offering exceptional service, fresh seasonal food, and a warm community feel.
We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to join the management team and continue deliver award winning service .
Job Overview
As Assistant Manager, assist in the day-to-day running of The Golden Lion. You’ll lead the front-of-house and back-of-house teams, ensure outstanding customer service, and deliver strong commercial results. This is a rare chance to take charge of a high-potential site right from opening, shape its identity, and build a team culture that reflects pride, passion, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities of the management team
- Oversee all aspects of the pub's operations, including food, drink, service, and guest experience
- Lead the recruitment, training, and development of a brand-new team
- Ensure a high standard of customer service is consistently delivered
- Work closely with the Head Chef to align food and service quality
- Manage rotas, budgets, stock, suppliers, and compliance
- Drive revenue through events, promotions, and community engagement
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at all times
- Take responsibility for financial performance and cost control
- Be the face of the business—hands-on, approachable, and always guest-focused
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as Assistant Manager in a quality food-led pub, bar, or restaurant
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a new team
- Commercial awareness and confidence in managing budgets, GP, and labour
- Excellent communication, organisational, and people skills
- A passion for hospitality, with a proactive and customer-first mindset
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on role, especially during launch and early trading
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and busy periods
