Temporary Telehandler Driver and Site Operative
Contract dates: 17 August 2026 to 18 December 2026
Working arrangement: Full-time site hours
Ecogen Energy is seeking an experienced and reliable Telehandler Driver and Site Operative to support the delivery of a solar farm project in Enborne, Newbury.
Role Purpose
The operative will support the Site Team with telehandler operations, material movements, site logistics, housekeeping, welfare management and general site duties.
The successful candidate must be proactive, organised and willing to take ownership of the general day-to-day conditions of the site.
Key Responsibilities
Telehandler and Material Handling
- Operate the telehandler safely and in accordance with site rules and the approved lifting arrangements.
- Offload deliveries and place materials within designated storage areas.
- Move materials, equipment and waste around the site as directed.
- Carry out daily and pre-use plant inspection checks.
- Report any plant defects, damage or maintenance requirements immediately.
- Ensure the telehandler is left secure, clean and correctly parked when not in use.
General Site Support
- Provide regular practical support to the Site Manager and installation teams.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining work areas, storage areas and access routes.
- Keep pedestrian routes, vehicle routes and working areas clear and safe.
- Identify and report hazards, defects or unsafe conditions.
- Assist with general labouring duties when telehandler operations and core site duties permit.
- Support solar farm installation activities where required, including carrying modules, organising materials and cable tying.
Welfare Facilities
- Keep welfare cabins and communal areas clean, tidy and adequately stocked.
- Keep toilets clean and stocked with soap, toilet roll and other required supplies.
- Monitor welfare consumables and inform the Site Manager when additional supplies are required.
- Ensure welfare areas remain suitable for use throughout the working day.
Waste Management and Housekeeping
- Check and empty site waste bins regularly.
- Monitor skip levels and notify the Site Manager when skips require replacement.
- Ensure waste is correctly segregated into the designated waste streams.
- Collect packaging, surplus materials and general waste from working areas.
- Place waste and recyclable materials in the correct designated areas.
- Maintain good housekeeping across the site at all times.
Tools and Asset Management
- Clean tools and equipment before they are returned to storage.
- Report missing, damaged or defective tools promptly.
- Keep storage areas organised, secure and tidy.
- Assist with basic asset records using online forms and spreadsheets.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid NPORS Telehandler Operator qualification appropriate for the plant being used.
- Previous experience operating a telehandler on a construction, infrastructure, agricultural or renewable energy project.
- Ability to complete daily plant inspection records.
- Comfortable using online forms, mobile applications and basic spreadsheets.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Willingness to undertake general site duties in addition to telehandler operations.
- Good awareness of site safety, housekeeping and vehicle movements.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working on a solar farm or renewable energy project.
- Experience supporting site logistics, material control or asset management.
- Banksman or vehicle-marshalling training.
- Manual handling training.
- Experience managing welfare facilities and site waste arrangements.

The successful operative should be:

- Careful and safety-conscious when working around plant, materials and other contractors.

Pay: £19.00-£21.00 per hour
