About the role
City Cabs (Edinburgh) Ltd is looking for an experienced Fast-Fit Vehicle Technician to join our busy taxi garage.
This role would suit someone currently working in a fast-fit or autocentre environment, such as Farmers Autocare, Kwik Fit, Halfords Autocentre or a similar independent garage.
You will work on licensed taxis, carrying out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs. Our priority is to identify faults quickly, complete work to a high standard and return vehicles to service safely and efficiently.
This is a practical, hands-on position working with a busy and varied taxi fleet. Unlike many retail garage roles, there is no requirement to meet sales or customer upselling targets.
Main responsibilities
- Carrying out routine servicing and vehicle maintenance
- Fitting and repairing tyres
- Inspecting and replacing brakes
- Repairing and replacing exhaust components
- Replacing batteries and other common service components
- Carrying out suspension and steering repairs
- Conducting basic diagnostic work and fault finding
- Completing vehicle safety inspections
- Identifying additional repairs that may be required
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Keeping accurate records of work completed
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop
- Working with the garage team to minimise vehicle downtime
About you
The successful applicant should have:
- Previous experience in a fast-fit, autocentre, fleet or independent garage
- Experience with servicing, tyres, brakes, exhausts and routine mechanical repairs
- The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- A strong understanding of workshop health and safety
- A reliable and practical approach to work
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A full UK driving licence
A relevant motor vehicle qualification, such as an SVQ/NVQ Level 2 or Level 3, would be beneficial, although applicants with strong practical experience will also be considered.
