The Sticky Wicket are recruiting for an experienced Assistant Manager to come and join our team.
Based within the grounds of the Banks Riverside cricket venue, home to Durham County Cricket Club, The Sticky Wicket Bar is the home of good sport, good food and live music. A great all-rounder, serving quality ales and wholesome food, there’s no need to be stumped for choice.
As part of the management team, our Assistant Manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the bar and restaurant, delivering exceptional customer experiences and supporting the development of our team. You will lead by example, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere that keeps guests coming back time and time again.
As the successful Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Venue Manager with the daily running of the business, supervising and motivating team members, ensuring excellent customer service standards are maintained, managing shifts, handling customer enquiries and feedback, and assisting with staff training and development. You will also oversee stock control, cash handling procedures, health and safety compliance, and ensure the venue is presented to the highest standards at all times.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and has previous supervisory or management experience within a bar, restaurant or similar venue. You will have excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and make decisions confidently. A hands-on approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to inspire and support a team are essential.
You will be comfortable working evenings, weekends and during major events, ensuring the venue delivers an outstanding experience during both busy matchdays and regular service periods.
But most importantly, you will have a genuine passion for hospitality, a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, and the drive to help make The Sticky Wicket a destination venue for guests, supporters and visitors alike.
