Main Responsibilities • Prepare and cook Indian dishes such as curries, biryanis, tandoori items, breads, chutneys, and desserts • Follow traditional and modern Indian recipes • Manage food preparation and portion control • Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and quality • Operate kitchen equipment including tandoor ovens, grills, and commercial cooking appliances • Monitor food stock and ingredients • Order supplies and coordinate with vendors when needed • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards • Supervise kitchen assistants or junior cooks • Train staff on cooking techniques and hygiene procedures • Develop new menu items and seasonal specials • Ensure dishes are prepared on time during busy service periods • Minimise food waste and control kitchen costs Required Skills Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine and spices • Expertise in regional Indian cooking styles (Punjabi, South Indian, Mughlai, Gujarati, etc.) • Ability to prepare vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes • Knowledge of tandoori cooking techniques • Knife handling and food preparation skills • Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations Soft Skills • Time management • Teamwork and leadership • Communication skills • Ability to work under pressure • Attention to detail • Creativity in food presentation and menu planning • Problem-solving skills Qualifications Required Educational Qualifications Typical qualifications may include: • Diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts, Catering, or Hospitality • Professional chef training from a culinary institute • Food Hygiene and Safety certification Some restaurants may accept extensive practical experience instead of formal education. Experience Requirements Most Indian restaurants prefer chefs who have: • 2–5 years of experience in Indian cuisine • Experience working in a commercial kitchen • Knowledge of authentic Indian spices and cooking methods • Experience with high-volume restaurant service Senior or head chef roles may require: • Menu planning experience • Kitchen management experience • Staff supervision experience
Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
