About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our team as an Apprentice Forklift Field Service Engineer.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in engineering while gaining hands-on experience maintaining, servicing and repairing forklift trucks and associated materials-handling equipment.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will learn how to diagnose faults, carry out routine servicing and complete repairs safely and efficiently. You will also attend customer sites, providing a professional and reliable service to customers across Yorkshire
The successful candidate will undertake relevant apprenticeship training alongside their practical workplace experience, working towards an industry-recognised engineering qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced engineers with the servicing, maintenance and repair of forklift trucks and materials-handling equipment.
- Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults on a variety of manufacturers forklifts.
- Carry out routine inspections, servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Assist with breakdowns and emergency repairs at customer sites.
- Learn how to use engineering tools, diagnostic equipment and technical information safely and correctly.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used and any faults identified.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, company procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Develop good customer service and communication skills when working on customer premises.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment in a safe and tidy condition.
- Attend college or training as required as part of the apprenticeship programme.
- Continue to develop technical knowledge and practical skills through on-the-job training and mentoring.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the role and apprenticeship programme.
Training & Development
As an apprentice, you will receive structured training and support from experienced engineers. You will gain practical experience across a range of engineering disciplines, including:
- Mechanical engineering
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulics
- Battery and charging systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Preventative maintenance
- Forklift and materials-handling equipment
- Health and safety
- Customer service
- LOLER training will also be provided
You will work towards an appropriate engineering apprenticeship qualification, with the opportunity to progress into a fully qualified Field Service Engineer upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Genuine interest in engineering, mechanics or vehicle maintenance.
- Willingness to complete an apprenticeship and attend off-the-job training.
- Good basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- A positive attitude towards learning and development.
- GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and/or a technical subject.
Desirable:
- Previous experience using hand tools.
- Experience of mechanical, automotive, agricultural or engineering work.
- Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical systems.
- Previous work experience, college studies or hobbies involving practical engineering.
- Full UK driving licence (dependant on age), or willingness and ability to work towards obtaining one.
Working Conditions
This is a field-based role, so you will spend much of your working day visiting customer sites alongside an experienced engineer. The role may involve working in warehouses, factories, yards and outdoor environments.
You will be required to work safely around forklift trucks, machinery and other industrial equipment and will receive appropriate training and personal protective equipment.
