Club Manager – Hove & Deep Sea Anglers Club

Founded in 1909, Hove & Deep Sea Anglers Club is a non-profit, member-run organisation with a strong fishing heritage. Alongside active beach and boat fishing members, the Club offers a lively social environment with a well-regarded bar and catering operation.
The Role
The Club Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Club’s bar and restaurant, ensuring excellent service to members, financial control, and full compliance with licensing and safety requirements. Fishing activities are excluded from this role.
Reporting to the Club Treasurer, the successful candidate will work closely with the committee and club officers to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-run environment for members.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the bar and restaurant operations, including stock control, supplier contracts, budgets, and cost control
- Hire, train, schedule, and manage staff, including performance reviews and disciplinary matters
- Ensure all liquor, gaming, and related licences are current and compliant with legislation
- Set and enforce quality, health, and safety standards in line with legal and insurance requirements
- Process and account for gaming machine income
- Plan and support promotional and social events
- Handle member feedback and resolve complaints professionally
- Diffuse difficult situations involving staff or members and maintain a safe atmosphere
Requirements
- Proven experience in bar and/or restaurant management
- Strong understanding of hospitality operations, budgeting, and stock control
- Sound knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and licensing regulations
- Excellent communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and peak periods
- Confident, decisive, and able to work effectively with members, staff, and committee volunteers
Hours & Salary
- Full-time position based on a 40-hour work week
- Salary in the range of £38,000–£40,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Sick pay provided in line with Club policy
