We are a well-established Plant & Tool Hire and Groundworks company based in Chapel-en-le-Frith with an excellent reputation for quality service and reliability. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Workshop Plant Engineer / Assistant Manager to join our friendly and hardworking team.
This is a varied, hands-on role combining workshop engineering, customer service and depot operations. No two days are the same, making it the ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both technical work and dealing with customers.
The Role
You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of plant machinery and hand tools, ensuring all equipment is safe, reliable and ready for hire.
The role also includes delivering and collecting equipment, managing the workshop counter, assisting customers with hire enquiries, processing paperwork and supporting the day-to-day running of the depot.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, inspect and repair a wide range of plant and machinery and small tools.
- Diagnose fault and carry out preventative maintenance.
- Deliver and collect plant equipment, including up to 3-tonne excavators.
- Manage the workshop counter and assist customers with equipment hire.
- Process hire documentation, payments and associated paperwork.
- Liaise with the Finance Manager regarding customer accounts and payments.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop.
- Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the depot.
- Work independently while contributing as part of a close-knit team.
About you
We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Plant Engineer, Workshop Fitter or in a similar mechanical role.
- Experience servicing and repairing plant machinery and powered equipment.
- A Full, Clean UK driving licence.
- Trailer towing experience.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer literacy (training will be provided where required).
- The ability to work on your own initiative and manage a varied workload.
- Due to the requirements of the role, you must live local to the area.
