Bylines Scotland is a nonprofit publication which works with volunteers to fill gaps in news coverage and help ordinary Scots find a voice in the national conversation. We engage with writers from many different backgrounds, including dyslexic people, people who have poor literacy skills, and people who do not have English as their native language.
We are looking for editors who are sympathetic to these challenges and share our enthusiasm for giving everyone the chance to tell the stories that matter to them. As a member of our editing team, you can pick assignments to suit your schedule, or volunteer to deal with particular challenges or themes. You might choose to provide more intensive support to just one or two struggling writers, or take on a variety of articles to keep your experience interesting.
Our editors come from a variety of backgrounds such as journalism, publishing and teaching. As long as you have the requisite language and communication skills, we can train you to deal with the specifics of the role.
