Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and competent Maintenance Operative / Handyman, for 15 hours per week, to support the day-to-day upkeep of our busy GP surgery. You will play a key role in ensuring our premises are safe, compliant, and well-maintained for patients, visitors, and staff. This is a varied, hands-on role requiring practical skills across general maintenance tasks and a strong awareness of health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening of the surgery
- Ensure premises are safe, clean and well-presented at all times
- Perform regular checks of equipment, fixtures, and fittings
- Undertake basic building maintenance and repairs
- Maintain records of maintenance activities
- Support compliance with health & safety, fire safety and infection control procedures
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience in a general maintenance / handyman role
- Understanding of health & safety requirements in the workplace
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
- Good communication skills and a professional approach
- Basic IT skills for record keeping
Desirable:
- Relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ / City & Guilds in Maintenance or Construction)
- Experience working in a healthcare, or similar environment
- Knowledge of compliance requirements (e.g. fire safety, COSHH, legionella)
- Relevant training (e.g. manual handling, working at height)
Pay: Up to £15.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- South Molton EX36 3BZ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
