The Opportunity
As Head of Health, Safety & Facilities, you will provide strategic leadership for Health, Safety and Facilities across Milk & More's multi-site operation. You will ensure legal compliance while leading facilities management, statutory maintenance, contractor performance, workplace standards and continuous improvement across the estate.
You’ll partner with Operations, Property, HR and senior leadership teams to set high standards, deliver improvements, and ensure we remain fully compliant with health, food, and workplace safety regulations. This is your chance to make a visible impact in a purpose-driven business.
What You’ll Do
· Lead the development and delivery of the Health, Safety & Facilities strategy, ensuring it supports the wider business objectives and drives continuous improvement across all locations.
· Provide strategic leadership to the Health & Safety and Facilities teams, creating a high-performing, engaged and customer-focused function.
· Act as the Company's competent person for Health & Safety, providing expert advice, guidance and support to senior leaders and operational managers.
· Oversee compliance with HACCP and food safety requirements relevant to operational activities, ensuring Health & Safety, Facilities and Food Safety risks are effectively identified, managed and continuously improved.
· Champion a positive safety culture and high workplace standards by embedding behavioural safety principles and promoting colleague engagement across the business.
· Develop, implement and monitor company-wide policies, procedures and standards relating to Health & Safety, Facilities Management, Fire Safety and workplace compliance.
· Lead the management of the company's facilities portfolio, ensuring all buildings, depots and workplaces remain safe, compliant, well maintained and fit for purpose.
· Oversee all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring statutory inspections are completed on time and assets remain operational.
· Develop effective contractor management processes, ensuring all contractors are appropriately selected and managed to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality work.
· Manage Facilities budgets, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and maximise value.
· Lead the organisation's audit and assurance programme, including internal audits, site inspections and compliance reviews, ensuring actions are completed and standards continuously improve.
· Develop and maintain risk management processes, ensuring suitable and sufficient risk assessments are in place across operational, engineering, transport and facilities activities.
· Develop, manage and report on Health, Safety & Facilities performance through meaningful KPIs, dashboards and compliance metrics, providing insight that drives operational performance and continuous improvement.
· Build effective relationships with enforcing authorities, insurers, external auditors, landlords, contractors and industry bodies, acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory matters.
· Lead the development and delivery of Health & Safety and Facilities training programmes, ensuring colleagues have the knowledge and competence to work safely and effectively.
· Ensure effective emergency preparedness arrangements are maintained across all locations, including fire evacuation procedures, business continuity planning and emergency response processes.
· Promote environmental sustainability and workplace standards by supporting initiatives that improve energy efficiency, waste management and the overall working environment.
· Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve compliance, enhance colleague experience and deliver operational excellence across the estate.
What We’re Looking For
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) with Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards Chartered status.
- Working knowledge of HACCP principles, food safety legislation and the operational controls required within a food distribution environment.
- Proven experience leading and developing high-performing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrable experience managing Facilities Management across multiple locations.
- Experience managing statutory building compliance, including fire safety, asbestos, legionella, electrical safety, gas safety and lifting equipment.
- Experience managing facilities budgets and driving cost efficiencies without compromising compliance or service delivery.
- Experience managing contractors and supplier performance across a multi-site operation.
- Able to engage, coach, and inspire colleagues at all levels to own safety and wellbeing.
- Strong auditing and risk assessment skills, with a practical, hands-on approach.
- Collaborative, approachable, and passionate about building a positive safety culture.
- Comfortable using digital tools (inc. Microsoft Office) and data to track performance and influence decisions.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites as required.
- Experience of working in a food production/distribution environment.
- Desirable; Certified Fire Risk Assessor.
Pay: £55,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
