Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Site Supervisor to support the day-to-day operations of our wood processing yard in Hassocks. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the site operates safely, efficiently, and effectively, supporting the site management team and supervising daily activities.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong organisational skills, leadership ability, and experience working within a busy industrial, recycling, waste, or similar environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the yard, ensuring safe and efficient working practices.
- Lead and support site operatives and mobile plant operators.
- Assist with the management of incoming materials, processing activities, and outgoing product movements.
- Monitor the quality of processed wood materials.
- Ensure all site activities comply with company procedures, health and safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Carry out regular site inspections and report any hazards, issues, or areas for improvement.
- Operate heavy machinery, including loading shovel & shredder
- Provide cover for the weighbridge when required
- Support toolbox talks, briefings, and staff training.
- Monitor the safe operation of site machinery, including shredders, loaders, and other heavy machinery.
- Liaise with drivers, contractors, visitors, and other site teams to ensure smooth site operations.
- Support preventative maintenance checks and report machinery faults or downtime.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site.
- Assist the Site Manager with continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency.
- Assist with machine clean downs & additional yard duties
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience supervising within a waste, recycling, construction, or similar fast-paced environment.
- Experience managing or coordinating a team in a busy operational setting.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures and site compliance.
- Confident communicator with strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working around heavy plant and machinery.
Desirable Qualifications
- Mobile plant experience or relevant operator tickets.
- Knowledge of waste, recycling, biomass, or wood processing operations.
- Experience with environmental permits and site compliance requirements.
What We Offer
Salary:
Working Days: Monday to Friday, every other Saturday (5 hour morning shift, 8am - 1 pm)
Working hours: 7:30am - 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, some flexibility required.
Holiday: 28 days (including Bank Holidays)
Pay: From £17.00 per hour
