Position: Grade 3 General Labourer/Assistant Gardener
Location: Cyfarthfa Park, Team Leaders Office, CF47 8RE

Contract Duration: 1+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £13.69 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties across parks, open spaces, and public areas within the borough
- Maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness across council-managed green spaces
- Complete general gardening tasks including grass cutting, mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning, weeding, planting, watering, mulching, edging, and bed preparation
- Operate grounds maintenance equipment including pedestrian and ride-on mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other hand tools safely and effectively
- Undertake lawn maintenance, turf repairs, soil cultivation, seed sowing, and maintenance of sports pitches and fine turf areas
- Assist with marking out football pitches and maintaining recreational playing surfaces
- Support seasonal planting schemes, bedding removal, and landscape improvement projects
- Carry out litter picking, bin emptying, and general environmental maintenance duties
- Assist with the construction and maintenance of landscape schemes
- Maintain tools, machinery, vehicles, and equipment in safe working condition and report defects promptly
- Ensure equipment is stored securely and keep work areas, vehicles, and storage facilities clean and organised
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times and promote safe working practices
- Carry out any other grounds maintenance or general duties as instructed by supervisors
Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum Level 2 City & Guilds qualification in Horticulture or an equivalent relevant qualification
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, horticulture, or environmental services is desirable
- Practical experience operating grounds maintenance machinery and equipment
- Good knowledge of horticultural practices and grounds maintenance techniques
- Able to operate mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other equipment safely
- Basic understanding of health and safety within grounds maintenance environments
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
- Positive and flexible approach to work
- Good practical skills with attention to detail
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good communication skills with colleagues, supervisors, and members of the public
- Willing to undertake training and develop new skills
- Must follow all health and safety rules
