Steel Erector/Steel Erector Supervisor
Due to business growth, Jackson Steel Structures Limited is looking for skilled and reliable Steel Erector/Chargehand to join our team, working on structural steel projects across Scotland.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Steel Erector/Chargehand who take pride in their workmanship, work safely and efficiently, and enjoy being part of a professional site team. For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities to take on Supervisor / Charge-hand responsibilities.
As a Steel Erector/Chargehand with Jackson Steel Structures Limited, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently installing structural steelwork on construction sites across Scotland, ensuring all work is completed to the required drawings, specifications and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Off-load, position and erect structural steelwork on construction sites across Scotland, with occasional cladding work as required.
- Work accurately from technical drawings, bolt lists, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure all bolts and connections are correctly installed, secured and fully tightened to the required specification.
- Work safely with mobile cranes, tele-handlers, MEWPs, alloy towers, genie lifts, chain blocks and other site plant and equipment.
- Safely use a range of hand and power tools for drilling, cutting, shaping, burning and bolt fastening.
- Carry out daily inspections of plant, equipment and tools, reporting any defects or concerns to management immediately.
- Undertake manual handling and mechanical lifting activities in accordance with safe working practices.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area throughout each project.
- Comply fully with all site-specific Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Assist with occasional workshop duties, including drilling, painting steel, organising bolts and general housekeeping.

For experienced candidates taking on Supervisor / Charge-hand responsibilities, additional duties will include: Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the successful
- Report to the main contractor upon arrival on site and ensure all steel erectors have completed the required site induction before work begins.
- Liaise with the main contractor and other site personnel to coordinate site safety, access and work programmes.
- Establish and maintain safe working areas, ensuring unauthorised personnel remain clear of steel erection activities.
- Assist with the set-up and supervision of mobile cranes and associated lifting operations.
- Lead, direct and supervise the steel erection team to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Ensure all operatives understand and follow the approved RAMS, lifting plans and agreed work sequences.
- Monitor progress and communicate effectively with management and the main contractor.
- Immediately report any accidents, incidents, near misses, delays, technical issues or safety concerns to company management.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, ensuring waste and site materials such as timber, pallets, bolt bags, banding and ropes are cleared regularly.
- Support the team in maintaining a professional, safe and productive working environment.

You should be comfortable working at height and on active construction sites, have a good understanding of steel erection practices, and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
For Supervisor / Charge-hand positions, we are looking for candidates with strong leadership skills who can confidently coordinate a team, communicate with main contractors and ensure that work is carried out safely and in accordance with the agreed programme.
