Brendan Anderton Butchers Ltd is a family-run meat business supplying quality meat products to catering, retail and local customers.
We are recruiting experienced butchers for opportunities within either our catering production site at The Old Barn or our retail butcher’s shop on Derby Road, Longridge.
Applicants can indicate whether they prefer catering, retail or would consider either role. The catering position focuses on preparing products accurately to customer specifications, while the retail role also includes counter presentation and customer service.
Main responsibilities
- Bone, trim, cut and portion beef, lamb, pork and poultry
- Prepare products accurately to customer specifications, weights and portion sizes
- Maintain consistent quality while minimising waste
- Prepare retail cuts and value-added products where required
- Follow food-safety, HACCP, traceability, labelling and stock-rotation procedures
- Operate knives, saws, grinders, scales and other butchery equipment safely
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness
- Support and guide less-experienced team members
- Serve and advise customers within the retail role
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 10 years’ professional butchery experience
- Strong traditional knife, boning, trimming and portioning skills
- Experience working confidently across beef, lamb, pork and poultry
- The ability to work independently and accurately to specification
- Good food-safety, hygiene and traceability knowledge
- Good literacy and comprehension skills, including the ability to read and understand specifications, labels, orders and safety procedures
- The ability to complete labels, traceability records and production paperwork accurately
- Good numeracy skills, including weighing, counting, addition and calculating portions, quantities and pack sizes
- A reliable, professional and team-focused approach
- Good communication and customer-service skills for the retail role
- Hold a full, valid UK driving licence
Hours and pay
- Full-time, minimum 41.25 contracted hours per week
- Five days across Monday to Saturday
- Early starts may be required
- Approximately £32,000–£36,500 per annum, depending on skills and experience
