J47 is a busy 25-bed Emergency General Surgery Ward offering an excellent opportunity for motivated and compassionate Staff Nurses to develop their skills and knowledge in surgical nursing. We are looking for individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality, individualised, patient-centred care and who demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, resilience, and a positive team approach. The ward predominantly cares for patients admitted acutely unwell under Emergency General Surgery as well as a wide range of specialties, including colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, urology, gastroenterology, hepatology, and renal medicine, while also supporting general medicine and elderly care when required. J47 is committed to staff development, providing comprehensive support to achieve clinical competencies, Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor qualifications, and access to ongoing education and training within a supportive learning environment.
The successful candidate will coordinate and deliver care for a designated group of patients, undertaking comprehensive assessments, monitoring for clinical deterioration, planning and evaluating care, and escalating concerns appropriately. The role includes admissions and discharge planning, medication administration, intravenous therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition, post-operative care, pain management, wound care, preparing patients for surgery and procedures, and supporting students and colleagues. Staff Nurses will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote safe, effective, and timely patient care. In addition to working on the ward, you will have the opportunity to work within the AMS Discharge POD, supporting timely and effective patient discharges across the service. You will also contribute to improving patient flow by working closely with the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) to facilitate safe, efficient transfers and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.
