Start your trade with a business that's going somewhere.
Apprentice Mechanic | Coleraine | Full time | Earn while you learn
Kerr's Tyres started as one man's idea, to run tyre and auto centres properly, treat customers and colleagues right, and the rest follows. Norman Kerr had that idea over twenty years ago, and he's still leading the business today. Now, backed by fresh investment, the group is growing across Ireland and the UK, and we want to train the mechanics who'll grow with it.
THE OPPORTUNITY, IN NUMBERS
- Founder led since day one. Norman Kerr still runs the business he built
- Backed by new investment to fund UK and Ireland wide growth
- Farmer Autocare's 21 Scottish centres joined the group in 2026
- Building towards 50+ centres in Ireland and 250 across the UK and Ireland
- Hiring around 20 roles across the Ireland part of the group right now, because we're growing
Learn a trade for life, in a real workshop
You'll learn in a real, busy workshop from day one, alongside qualified mechanics who remember what it's like to start. Turn up on time, graft, ask questions, and you'll come out the other side with a trade for life. We're proud of a genuinely diverse team, and this door is open to anyone with the drive to walk through it.
What you'll learn to do
- Service and repair vehicles, starting with the basics and building up
- Diagnose faults alongside experienced mechanics
- Fit, balance and repair tyres, and carry out wheel alignment
- Complete safety checks and keep proper records
- Look after customers, and a workshop, properly
What you'll bring
- Enrolled, or holding a confirmed place, on a recognised apprenticeship course
- A basic mechanics tool kit
- Reliability and a genuine interest in the trade
- Desirable: any light mechanical or tyre fitting experience, or Level 2 qualified and progressing to Level 3
What you'll earn
For colleagues under 18, hours and pay are adjusted in line with UK employment law for young workers. We'll talk you through exactly what that means for you at offer stage.
Where it can take you
Apprentice, to qualified Mechanic, to Senior Technician, to Centre Manager if you want it. People in this business have made exactly that journey, and with new centres opening, the ladder is only getting longer.
The extras
- A guaranteed 46 hour contracted week, 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays, with no late evenings, no Saturday afternoons and no Sundays
