Kitchen Assistant – Food Preparation & Kitchen Support

Reporting to: Head Chef
Role summary
The Kitchen Assistant provides balanced support across food preparation, general kitchen cleaning and pot-wash duties. Working closely with the chefs, the role helps prepare ingredients and simple menu items while maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen.
Key responsibilitiesFood preparation
- Wash, peel, chop, slice and portion ingredients.
- Prepare vegetables, salads, garnishes and other basic menu items.
- Follow recipes, preparation lists and instructions from the chefs.
- Label, date, rotate and correctly store prepared food.
- Receive, check and put away food deliveries.
- Maintain organised preparation and storage areas.
- Follow food-safety, allergen and portion-control procedures.
Kitchen cleaning and hygiene
- Clean and sanitise work surfaces, preparation areas and kitchen equipment.
- Sweep and mop floors and keep walls, shelves and storage areas clean.
- Complete scheduled daily, weekly and deep-cleaning tasks.
- Clean fridges, freezers and dry-storage areas as directed.
- Safely remove waste, recycling and food waste.
- Follow cleaning schedules and correctly use and store cleaning products.
- Report maintenance, hygiene or safety concerns promptly.
- Help maintain compliance with food-safety and health-and-safety standards.
Pot wash
- Wash and sanitise crockery, cutlery, cookware and utensils.
- Keep the pot-wash area clean, organised and operating efficiently.
- Ensure clean equipment is available throughout preparation and service.
- Store clean items safely in their correct locations.

You will be:
- Interested in food preparation and developing practical kitchen skills.
- Willing to contribute across preparation, cleaning and pot-wash duties.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work at pace.
- Able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Committed to high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and safety.
- Comfortable with an active role involving standing, lifting and carrying.
Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential, as training will be provided. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays will be required.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
