The Old Mill Inn is a highly thought of Gastro pub in the heart of West Cumbria, a little over 5 minutes away from either Maryport or Cockermouth, we have grow a reputation for being a friendly, relaxed, but high quality, dinning experience run by a close knit team.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CDP/Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team in. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, extensive culinary experience, and a passion for delivering exceptional food quality. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee kitchen operations, manage food production, and mentor junior staff in a fast-paced hospitality environment. The successful applicant will contribute to maintaining high standards of food safety and service excellence, ensuring our guests receive memorable dining experiences.
Duties
- Assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, including supervising staff and ensuring smooth workflow.
- Prepare, cook, and present a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards.
- Oversee food production to ensure quality, consistency, and presentation meet organisational expectations.
- Manage food safety protocols, including hygiene standards and proper storage procedures.
- Lead and motivate the kitchen team when our head chef is away
- Monitor inventory levels, assist with stock ordering, and minimise waste through efficient utilisation of ingredients.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
- Collaborate with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Requirements
- Background in food preparation, cooking, and food production across diverse cuisines.
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices recognised within the hospitality industry.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining high standards of quality and service.
- Previous experience working in restaurants or similar hospitality settings is essential.
- Good communication skills with a focus on teamwork and customer satisfaction.
- Formal culinary qualifications or equivalent experience are highly desirable although not required
- Full British Driving Licence (Required)
