We are a newly established, FCA-registered alternative investment fund based in London, focused on a specialist illiquid asset class with a closed-ended, fixed-term fund structure. We are seeking an exceptional founding Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer to lead the firm. This is the most senior role in the business and a rare opportunity to build and shape an investment fund from the ground up, with full ownership of strategy, portfolio construction, and investor relationships.
The Opportunity
As Managing Partner and CIO you will chair the Investment Committee, drive all investment decisions, and serve as the primary point of accountability for portfolio performance and returns. You will be named to the FCA as the individual directing the business and will hold a key person designation. This role suits a senior market practitioner who combines deep specialist expertise with the commercial credibility to represent the fund to professional and institutional investors.
Key Responsibilities

- Chair the Investment Committee; hold final authority on all material acquisition and disposal decisions
- Build and maintain market relationships that generate proprietary deal flow
- Lead investor relations: LP communications, quarterly reporting, and annual meetings
- Represent the fund externally to investors, intermediaries, and industry networks
- Serve as a Board member and co-sign regulatory filings and annual reports
- Work alongside the Independent Chair and NEDs to ensure the highest governance standards
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 10 years of senior experience in the relevant specialist asset class, at director or equivalent level
- A demonstrable acquisition and portfolio management track record in an alternative or illiquid asset context
- Postgraduate qualification in the relevant discipline (strongly preferred)
- An established network of market relationships supporting credible, proprietary deal flow
- Commercial confidence in presenting to sophisticated investors and navigating LP dynamics
- Clean regulatory history; must satisfy FCA fit and proper criteria as a named key person
- Prior experience with FCA-registered or authorised fund structures is advantageous
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary commensurate with seniority (£150,000 – £200,000)
- Carried interest participation in fund returns
- Founding team status with meaningful influence over the firm's culture and direction
- A lean, high-calibre team environment with strong institutional service providers in place
- London base with flexibility where appropriate
