Family Assistant (Childcare & Household Support)

About the Role
We are a busy family of five with three young boys, looking for a reliable, caring, and highly organised Family Assistant to support the smooth running of our home and family life.
This is a hands-on role, primarily focused on childcare and household support. The role includes helping care for a young baby, supporting school and nursery routines, assisting with homework and activities, and keeping the home clean, tidy, and well organised.
During quieter periods, the role may also include light administrative support for our family business, mainly linked to hotel operations. This is a secondary part of the role, and no hotel experience is required.
This position would suit someone who enjoys working in a family environment, is practical and proactive, and is happy to support wherever needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesChildcare & Family Support
- Provide attentive and nurturing care for a young baby
- Support the daily routine of three young boys in a calm and organised manner
- Assist with school and nursery drop-offs and pick-ups
- Help supervise children after school and during busy family periods
- Support with homework, reading, and age-appropriate learning activities
- Assist with feeding, changing, dressing, and general routines
- Help coordinate school, nursery, activities, and appointments
- Provide occasional support during evenings or family travel, if required
Household Support
- Help maintain a clean, tidy, and well-organised home
- Carry out general household tasks, including:
- Tidying living areas and children’s spaces
- Laundry and ironing
- Changing bedding
- Organising cupboards, wardrobes, toys, and household items
- Keeping the kitchen and shared areas in good order
- Prepare and organise daily essentials such as school bags, uniforms, bottles, nappies, and children’s items
- Assist with errands and practical day-to-day family tasks
Light Business/Admin Support
During quieter periods, assist with simple administrative tasks such as:
- Basic email and diary support
- Data entry and document organisation
- Assisting with bookings, records, and scheduling
- Helping with supplier communication and follow-up tasks
- Supporting the hotel team with simple coordination tasks when needed
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be:
- Warm, caring, patient, and reliable
- Experienced in childcare, nannying, early years, nursery work, or family support
- Confident caring for babies and young children
- Comfortable with a practical, hands-on role including cleaning, laundry, and household organisation
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to use initiative
- Good at managing routines and supporting children calmly
- Trustworthy and discreet
- Comfortable using email, calendars, and basic computer tools
- Flexible and willing to support where needed
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Comfortable driving for school/nursery drop-offs, pick-ups, errands, and family-related tasks
- Right to work in the UK
- Willing to complete or provide a valid PVG check for working with children
- Good spoken and written English
- Able to work full-time in Edinburgh EH7
Preferred Requirements
- Previous nanny, family assistant, nursery, or early years experience
- Experience caring for babies or children under 1 year old
- Paediatric First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one
- PVG membership already in place
- Access to own car preferred
Working Hours
- Full-time role, typically 40 hours per week
- Some flexibility may be required depending on family needs

Important Note
