A rare opportunity has opened for an ambitious and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker or Team Leader who is ready to take the next step into management.
NextGen is a new and exciting start-up, launched as a sister company to an established and experienced care provider with a strong foundation in delivering high-quality support to children and young people. This means you get the opportunity to be part of something fresh and forward-thinking, while benefiting from the support, structure, and expertise of a proven organisation behind the scenes.
We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and motivated Trainee Manager to help lead one of our children's homes, support the staff team, and play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for the young people in our care.
Why this role is a great next step
This role is ideal for someone who already has experience as a Senior RSW, Lead RSW, or Team Leader, and is now ready for:
- More responsibility
- Leadership and line management experience
- A clear pathway into residential management
- The chance to help shape a new home and team culture
- The security and guidance of an experienced parent company
The role
As a Trainee Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager and senior leadership team to support the day-to-day running of the home. You will help lead staff practice, maintain high standards of care, promote safeguarding, and ensure young people receive the support they need to thrive.
You will also deputise in the absence of the Manager, provide guidance and supervision to staff, and help ensure the home remains safe, well-run, and child-centred at all times.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the leadership and operation of the home, including:
- Supporting high-quality care practice, ensuring care plans and risk assessments are up to date and followed effectively.
- Leading and guiding staff teams in delivering consistent, nurturing, and therapeutic care to young people.
- Promoting safeguarding and wellbeing, ensuring young people are protected from harm and supported in all aspects of daily living.
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of shifts, including hygiene, safety, routines, boundaries, and the overall homely environment.
- Working in partnership with clinical and education teams to ensure young people receive joined-up, individualised support.
- Supporting staff development, including supervision, mentoring, induction, and identifying training needs.
- Ensuring high standards of recording and administration, including incident reports, care documentation, audits, handovers, and monitoring.
- Helping to manage staffing and rotas, ensuring the home is safely staffed and operational needs are met.
- Providing management cover in the absence of the Registered Manager when required.
- Championing positive practice, equality, diversity, professionalism, and strong role modelling across the team.
About you
We are looking for someone who is caring, confident, organised, and ready to grow into a management role.
You should have:
- A Level 3 Diploma/QCF/NVQ in Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent
- At least 2 years' experience supporting children and young people
- Experience within a children's residential care setting
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and child-centred care
- Knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, and relevant childcare legislation
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- The ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team
- Confidence in recording, reporting, and maintaining high professional standards
- Willingness to work toward a Level 5 qualification if not already achieved
What you'll bring
You will be someone who can:
- Build positive and professional relationships with children and young people
- Remain calm and effective in challenging situations
- Support, mentor, and develop others
- Lead by example and promote high standards
- Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, bank holidays, and on-call duties as required
