NR Engineering is looking for an experienced Honing Machine Setter / Machinist to join our precision engineering team.
The role will involve setting and operating honing machines to manufacture precision components to tight tolerances. We are looking for someone with a good engineering background who is comfortable working from technical drawings, measuring their own work and taking responsibility for producing components to the required specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate honing machines (Sunnen) for the production of precision components.
- Set and adjust tooling, honing stones and machine parameters to achieve the required size, geometry and surface finish.
- Work from engineering drawings, job cards and manufacturing instructions.
- Accurately measure components using appropriate inspection equipment.
- Monitor components throughout production and make adjustments where required.
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspection.
- Identify and resolve machining or quality issues.
- Maintain consistent quality when working to close tolerances.
- Complete relevant production and quality documentation.
- Work in accordance with our ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Maintain machines and working areas to a high standard.
- Work closely with other setters, operators, supervisors and the Quality team.
Skills & Experience
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience setting and operating honing machines.
- Experience within a precision engineering/manufacturing environment.
- A good understanding of honing processes and how adjustments affect bore size, geometry and surface finish.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Experience working to tight tolerances.
- Good knowledge of engineering measurement equipment, such as air gauging, bore gauges, micrometers and comparators.
- Ability to inspect and take responsibility for your own work.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Experience with Sunnen honing equipment would be particularly advantageous.
We would also consider an experienced precision machinist or grinder with strong measurement and setting skills who is interested in developing their honing experience.
