Ground Worker – ERYC Contract
Job Purpose:
To carry out a range of groundworks and civil engineering tasks in support of various long term projects, including highways maintenance, drainage, public realm improvements, and infrastructure works. The role involves working safely, efficiently, and to a high standard in public and residential environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general groundworks including excavation, trenching, backfilling, and reinstatement.
- Assist with installation and repair of drainage systems, kerbing, paving, and concrete works.
- Carry out road and footpath maintenance, including patching, resurfacing preparation, and line marking support.
- Operate small plant and tools such as dumpers, rollers, breakers, and compactors (where qualified).
- Work from site drawings, plans, and supervisor instructions to complete tasks accurately.
- Ensure compliance with clients specifications, health & safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Set up and maintain safe work zones, including signage and barriers in public areas.
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Support other trades and team members as required.
Health & Safety:
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety policies, including PPE usage at all times.
- Follow risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- Be aware of the public environment and ensure minimal disruption and maximum safety.
Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in groundworks, civil engineering, or construction.
- Knowledge of drainage systems, kerbing, and paving preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Good understanding of site safety and manual handling.
Qualifications (desirable/required depending on role):
- CSCS Card (essential)
- CPCS/NPORS for plant operation (desirable)
- Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation (highly desirable)
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)

- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- May involve early starts, overtime, or weekend work depending on project needs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £14.00-£14.75 per hour
