Job Summary
To lead shifts effectively, provide operational oversight of the home and support the
management team in delivering safe, high-quality care and positive outcomes for children
and young people.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead shifts and ensure safe staffing levels are maintained at all times.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to Residential Children's Care Workers.
- Ensure the home operates in accordance with legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Oversee safeguarding practices and ensure concerns are escalated appropriately.
- Manage incidents, behavioural challenges and emergency situations.
- Ensure accurate completion of records, reports and documentation.
- Support implementation and review of care plans and risk assessments.
- Conduct medication audits and ensure safe medication practices are maintained.
- Monitor standards of care and professional practice across the team.
- Support induction and mentoring of new employees.
- Participate in staff development and coaching activities.
- Assist with supervisions and competency assessments where delegated.
- Liaise with social workers, education providers, families and external agencies.
- Participate in audits and quality assurance activities.
- Support the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager with service improvements and action plans.
- Promote a positive culture and act as a role model for staff.
- Contribute towards preparation for inspections and monitoring visits.
Qualifications
- Hold the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or be willing to undertake and successfully complete the qualification within the required timescales.
On-Call Requirement
- Participation in the organisation's on-call rota is a contractual requirement of the role.
- Post holders are expected to participate in the on-call rota for up to seven days per month.
- The post holder must be able to provide management advice, guidance and decision-making support outside normal working hours.
Person Specification
Essential
- Significant experience within residential children's care.
- Experience leading shifts or supervising staff.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and practice.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to motivate and support staff teams.
- Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to manage conflict and challenging situations effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience undertaking staff supervisions.
- Experience of audits and quality assurance processes.
- Experience supporting inspections.
- Understanding of workforce development and coaching.
- Experience of multi-agency working.
Pay: £24,420.00-£68,309.29 per year
