Job Summary
We’re looking for an Assistant Chef to work with our Head Chef and bring our seasonal farm café menu to life. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills within an environment where food isn’t just fuel, but a way to connect, nourish, and co-create. We are a busy new cafe with potential to open more days and longer hours imminently. We also offer seasonal events catering opportunities and work with local businesses to offer hospitality events at our farm, where we can offer additional work opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes for our busy cafe open daily and over the weekend.
- Share of weekly and weekend shifts to cover our cafe menu serving times of 10am-2pm.
- Perform daily kitchen operations during shifts to ensure smooth service including advance menu preparation and ordering
- Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are strictly adhered to within the kitchen
- Organise and manage food inventory, including ordering supplies as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area at all times
- Event catering preparation (hours outside of cafe opening) also available with several events booked through the summer and autumn.
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking or culinary roles within a hospitality setting preferred
- Background in sustainable food is highly advantageous
- Strong Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practise in hygiene (understanding of HAACP and recent Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate preferred)
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in food presentation and quality control
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure during peak hours
