Overview
This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference to the life of a wonderful 8-year-old boy living with a rare, progressive and life-limiting neurological condition.
We are looking for a compassionate, experienced and reliable Complex Care Support Worker to join our family and provide consistent daytime support. This role combines complex medical care with companionship, play, outings and helping a young boy continue to enjoy the things he loves most.
You will be joining a warm, supportive and proactive family who are committed to ensuring their son continues to experience joy, adventure, learning and meaningful experiences despite the challenges of his condition.
We are seeking someone who can become an important and trusted part of our support network, working closely alongside family and healthcare professionals to provide outstanding care while helping create meaningful experiences, happy memories and the best possible quality of life.
This role would particularly suit someone with a background in paediatric complex care, children’s nursing, disability support, healthcare assistance, hospice care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or specialist SEN support.
Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Additional hours may be available for occasional evenings, weekends, overnight support and family holidays by mutual agreement.
- We are ideally looking for someone seeking a long-term position who can provide consistency and become an important part of our support network.
About the Role
You will work closely with our family to provide practical support, companionship and complex care for our son within our home and local community.
Responsibilities will include:
- PEG/gastrostomy feeding and care
- Medication administration
- Monitoring and responding appropriately to seizures and neurological symptoms
- Personal care and support with daily living activities
- Mobility support and physical assistance
- Supporting therapies, routines and engaging activities
- Accompanying appointments, family outings and community activities
- Working closely with parents and healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care
Essential Experience:
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex medical needs
- Experience with PEG/gastrostomy feeding and care
- Experience supporting epilepsy and seizure management
- Experience supporting physical disabilities and personal care needs
- Confidence administering medication and following care plans
- Ability to recognise changes in health and wellbeing and escalate concerns appropriately
- Calm, reliable and able to respond appropriately in changing situations
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Paediatric First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training
Desirable Experience;
- Experience supporting children with progressive neurological conditions
- Experience supporting children with life-limiting conditions
- Experience working alongside community nursing, therapy, hospice or palliative care teams
- Manual handling experience
- Background in children’s nursing, healthcare assistance, disability support, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or rehabilitation support
