Maintenance Operative (3 Days per Week)About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and skilled Maintenance Operative to join our friendly team at Waterloo House, part of the Distinguished Care Group.
This is a part-time position working 3 days per week, alongside our existing part-time Maintenance Operative, ensuring the home remains safe, welcoming, and well-maintained throughout the week. Working together, you'll help deliver both planned and reactive maintenance across the home.
This is a vital, hands-on role where no two days are the same. One day you could be repairing a light fitting, the next decorating a resident's bedroom, carrying out safety checks, or helping to keep our gardens looking their best. You'll also act as a Fire Warden, helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for our residents, visitors, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks promptly and safely.
- Report and rectify defects or hazards throughout the home.
- Maintain the grounds, including basic gardening, clearing pathways, and keeping outdoor areas tidy.
- Complete minor repairs and decoration to maintain a high-quality environment.
- Test and record fire alarms, emergency lighting, water temperatures, and other routine compliance checks.
- Support with deliveries and ensure the safe storage of maintenance materials.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Promote safe working practices and comply with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
- Act as Fire Warden and support emergency procedures.
- Work closely with the other Maintenance Operative to ensure maintenance tasks are coordinated and completed efficiently.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Practical, hands-on, and able to tackle a wide variety of maintenance tasks.
- Knowledgeable about safe working practices and Health & Safety.
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage their workload effectively.
- Friendly, approachable, and respectful of residents' dignity and independence.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with another Maintenance Operative and the wider team.
Previous experience in a maintenance, caretaking, or facilities role is desirable. However, we value attitude just as highly as experience, and we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is flexible, and is committed to creating a safe, comfortable environment for our residents.
What We Offer
- Part-time role working 3 days per week.
- A welcoming, supportive, and friendly team environment.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
- The chance to make a genuine difference to residents' daily lives.
- The opportunity to be part of a care home that values quality, teamwork, and person-centred care.
If you take pride in maintaining high standards and enjoy practical, varied work, we'd love to hear from you.
