Progress Teachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school to recruit a dedicated Inclusion Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. You’ll provide a combination of in-class, small-group and individual support, helping pupils access the curriculum, build confidence and develop greater independence.
Working closely with teachers, the SEND and pastoral teams, you’ll play an important role in creating an inclusive environment where pupils feel supported, understood and able to engage positively with school.
The Role
As an Inclusion Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1, small-group and classroom-based support across the secondary curriculum.
- Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and access lessons more confidently.
- Support pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEND, Autism, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN and learning difficulties.
- Adapt resources, explain tasks and provide appropriate scaffolding to help pupils work as independently as possible.
- Support pupils with concentration, organisation, communication, emotional regulation and positive engagement.
- Provide targeted support and interventions where required, including literacy, numeracy, communication and social development.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Work closely with subject teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and other members of the wider school team.
- Contribute to strategies and support plans designed to improve pupil engagement, progress and wellbeing.
- Promote a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment throughout the school.
About You
We’re looking for an Inclusion Teaching Assistant who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people, ideally within a secondary school or education setting.
- Has experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs.
- Is patient, approachable and confident building positive relationships with teenagers.
- Can adapt their approach to meet different learning, communication, behavioural and emotional needs.
- Is confident supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop greater independence.
- Can remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils who may find school challenging.
- Has experience working with EHCPs, intervention programmes, SEMH or specialist SEND provision – advantageous.
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification – desirable but not essential.
- Is proactive, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- Has a genuine commitment to inclusion and helping young people achieve their potential.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people in a school, education, care or similar setting.
- Experience working with pupils with additional needs or SEND.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
