We are seeking a Residential Waking Night Support Worker to join our residential team, based in Carmarthenshire. This role is responsible for promoting and ensuring the safety, care, well-being, and comfort of students throughout the night, supporting their individual needs within a residential and educational setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide reassurance, practical support, and supervision during night-time hours, helping students to feel safe, settled, and supported while contributing to positive outcomes and maintaining a nurturing residential environment.
Main Duties include:
- Supporting students with evening, overnight, and morning routines in line with individual care plans, risk assessments, and educational planning cycles
- Providing reassurance and support to students who wake during the night, helping to reduce distress, anxiety, or unsettled behaviour and assisting them to return to sleep when appropriate
- Assisting with personal care needs, including hygiene and daily living support, where required
- Maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive residential environment throughout the night
- Supervising the household during waking night shifts and responding appropriately to emergencies, escalating concerns when necessary
- Administering medication in accordance with organisational policies and individual requirements
- Monitoring, recording, and reporting on students’ well-being, night-time routines, incidents, and support provided during shifts
- Completing and maintaining accurate records, including occurrence reports, risk assessments, personal plans, and termly reports
- Communicating effectively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure continuity of care and support
- Supporting conflict resolution and promoting positive relationships within the residential setting
- Undertaking housekeeping duties, including cleaning communal areas and supporting laundry requirements, to maintain a clean and homely environment
Supporting students during holiday periods and participating in meetings, supervision sessions, and training as required.
You will need:
- Experience working with young people with learning disabilities, ASD, developmental delays, or social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties
- Experience supporting and managing challenging behaviours using positive and effective approaches.
- Understanding of holistic, person-centred care and the ability to adapt support strategies to achieve positive outcomes
- Knowledge of health, safety, hygiene, and safeguarding requirements within a care environment
- Strong IT and report-writing skills
- High levels of resilience, flexibility, and adaptability
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel and drive as part of the role is highly desirable
