This is an exciting opportunity to join the laboratory of Professor Frances Brodsky. The postholder will participate in cutting edge research projects in molecular cell biology focussing on intracellular membrane traffic, working closely with senior research personnel and enabling the laboratory’s research through technical support.
The main purpose of this position is to be an active member of the Brodsky lab research team and enable research by others. The focus of the research is to characterise the role of clathrin proteins in neurological and metabolic disease pathways, through biochemical and genetic analysis. The post holder will be expected to assist with experimental design and interpretation of results and take responsibility for projects assigned, working as independently as possible. The postholder will be expected to have had experience working as a member of a laboratory team and contributing to a research project in molecular cell biology.

- This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2028.
- The salary range is for Grade 6B on UCL salary scales and final salary will depend on the successful applicant’s years of experience.

The postholder will serve as a research assistant supporting Professor Brodsky and senior members of the Brodsky lab team. This will involve participation in research projects, as well as responsibility for some laboratory administration. We are looking for candidates with ability to take ownership of their work and participate as active laboratory team members. We prioritise careful and thoughtful work and expect the postholder to maintain accurate records of their research, prepare presentations and results for publication.
You must have an undergraduate degree and preferably a Masters degree in a subject related to biochemistry and molecular cell biology. Previous research experience in a laboratory is essential. Familiarity with and understanding the principles of basic techniques such as molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, protein purification, cell culture and confocal microscopy is required, as these techniques will be used on a routine basis.
