JOB DESCRIPTION – Manufacturing Operative
4 on 4 off shift pattern (2x 7am-7pm / 2x 7pm - 7am).
Pay increase to £31,379.28 once trained.
The function of the Manufacturing Operative is to ensure that canning/bottling/packing production lines operate safely, efficiently, and within required time scales, while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, legality, and product quality in accordance with site HACCP plans, company procedures, and hygiene standards.
The tasks of a Manufacturing Operative are :-
· Operate, monitor, and adjust production line machinery in accordance with approved operating procedures and validated process parameters.
· Ensure production targets are achieved in line with the production schedule.
· Carry out routine equipment checks, basic fault finding, and promptly report or escalate faults to minimise downtime and support maintenance activities where required.
· Carry out in-process quality checks including (but not limited to) fill weights, seal integrity, coding accuracy, and product appearance to ensure all products meet required specifications and support a “right first time” approach.
· Ensure all products meet required specifications at all stages of production.
· Immediately identify, escalate, and isolate any non-conforming products in line with site procedures to minimise waste and rework.
· Comply fully with HACCP plans, food safety procedures, allergen controls, PPE requirements, personal hygiene standards, and factory zoning rules to prevent contamination and cross-contamination risks.
· Maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping by cleaning equipment and production areas in accordance with cleaning schedules and site standards.
· Assist in the preparation and batch-making of syrups in accordance with approved recipes and formulations, ensuring correct ingredients and batch details are verified before use.
· Accurately measure, record, and document all ingredients, production activities, quality checks, cleaning tasks, and batch information to maintain full traceability of materials and finished goods.
· Safely operate Forklift Trucks (FLT) and Very Narrow Aisle Trucks (VNA) to transport raw materials, packaging, and finished goods between production and storage areas.
· Maintain high standards of housekeeping at all times.
· Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
· Communicate effectively and escalate issues promptly to the Team Leader/Shift Manager or relevant department.
· Follow all health, safety, environmental, and company policies relating to safe working practices, attendance, timekeeping, conduct, and maintaining safe working conditions for yourself and others.

Qualifications
Essential
· Right to work in the UK.
· GCSE level (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
· Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
· Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to quality standards.
· Ability to follow written procedures and specifications.
· Good level of physical fitness and ability to work on feet for extended periods.
· Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Desirable
· Valid FLT (Forklift Truck) licence – Counterbalance / VNA .
· Experience within food, beverage, or FMCG manufacturing.
· Food Safety qualification (Level 2 or equivalent).
· Experience with batching or mixing processes.
· Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting production equipment.
The Manufacturing Operative is accountable to the Shift Manager. When absent from work, cover will be provided by a designated member of staff.
