Purpose
To perform calibration, verification, and where appropriate repair of mechanical testing equipment and load measurement devices, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and delivering accurate, reliable results that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Direct report to Head of Laboratory/Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities
§ Carry out on-site and in-house (where applicable) calibration of mechanical testing equipment, including tensile/compression systems, load cells, extensometers, Charpy & Izod impact testers and hardness testers.
§ Set up and operate electro-mechanical and hydraulic servo-controlled test frames, hand presses, and deadweight systems.
§ Accurately apply forces, capture data, and record results in line with customer specifications and company procedures.
§ Analyse and evaluate calibration data, producing clear and compliant certification and reports.
§ Perform fault finding, minor repairs, and adjustments, including basic electrical work and soldering where required.
§ Handle and position instrumentation/equipment with precision to ensure validity and repeatability of results.
§ Ensure all work complies with ISO/IEC 17025, UKAS requirements, and internal QMS procedures.
§ Maintain calibration standards and equipment traceability prior to use.
§ Liaise with management and colleagues to ensure efficient job delivery and scheduling.
§ Support continuous improvement by reviewing methods and recommending enhancements.
§ Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and professionalism at all times.

Travel & Working Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
§ Minimum 3 years’ experience in calibration, mechanical testing, or related engineering field
§ GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
§ Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
§ ONC / HNC / HND (or higher) in Engineering or related discipline
§ Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 or UKAS-accredited environment
