We are looking for an experienced and confident early years practitioner to lead our preschool room and take on the role of SENDCo at Blue Windmill Nursery in Rugby, Warwickshire.
This is an important position within the nursery, working with our oldest children as they prepare for school. You will lead the day-to-day running of the preschool room, support the staff team and help ensure that children receive high-quality care, learning and support.
The role sits within our existing management structure and reports to the nursery manager and deputy manager.
About the role
As Preschool Room Leader, you will be responsible for:
- leading the preschool team and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the room;
- ensuring high standards of care, teaching and learning;
- supporting staff with planning, observations and assessment;
- helping children develop the confidence, independence and skills they need before starting school;
- maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-organised environment;
- building positive relationships with parents and carers;
- supporting staff development and good practice within the room;
- working closely with the nursery manager and deputy manager.
The position also includes responsibility for the nursery SENDCo role.
As SENDCo, you will:
- support the identification of children who may need additional help;
- work with staff to put appropriate support strategies in place;
- liaise with parents, professionals and outside agencies where required;
- support the completion and review of individual plans and relevant records;
- help staff understand how best to support children with additional needs;
- spend some time working across the nursery to fulfil SENDCo responsibilities.
Previous SENDCo experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential. We are happy to support the right candidate with appropriate online training and time to develop their knowledge and confidence in the role.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- holds a full and relevant Level 3 early years qualification or above;
- has previous leadership experience;
- has a good understanding of the EYFS;
- is confident supporting and guiding other staff;
- is organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities;
- communicates well with children, parents, colleagues and professionals;
- has an interest in supporting children with SEND;
- is committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment.
- lives in Rugby, or is able to reliably commute daily.
About Blue Windmill Nursery
Blue Windmill Nursery is a well-established nursery in Rugby, caring for children from babies through to school age.
Under new ownership since February 2026, we place a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, movement, wellbeing and helping children develop confidence and independence. We are continuing to develop our environment and practice and are looking for someone who can make a positive contribution to the next stage of the nursery’s development.
