A specialist school for young people aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school blends the best elements of mainstream and specialist education to create a nurturing, aspirational environment where students can thrive, build independence and prepare for life beyond school.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with their learning, wellbeing and personal development, ensuring each young person has the best opportunity to reach their full potential. You’ll help create a safe, structured and engaging environment, adapting your approach to meet individual needs and supporting positive behaviour throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Build warm, supportive and trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and ready to learn
- Promote independence, confidence and positive behaviour
- Support the delivery of a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum
- Work closely with the Class Teacher in all aspects of daily classroom practice
- Respond flexibly to the changing needs of the school
- Support pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and physical development
- Work collaboratively within a multi professional team
- Complete documentation accurately (incidents, behaviour, health records) under guidance
About You
- A genuine desire to support young people and build trusted professional relationships
- GCSE (or equivalent) pass in Maths and English – essential
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Positive, patient and creative in meeting pupils’ individual needs
