Borno Pharmacy is looking for a full-time Finance Manager to join our Finance department, working Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30.
We are a family-owned business, and the wellbeing of our customers, clients, and staff has always been at the heart of what we do. With 10 branches and a Head Office in Witham, this role will be based at our Head Office.
About the Role
We're seeking an AAT-qualified, hands-on finance professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day financial operations of the business as we continue to grow. This is a broad, all-round finance position suited to someone who enjoys being involved across the full accounting function, from transactional processing through to management reporting.
Reporting to the MD, you'll ensure our financial records are accurate, up to date and compliant, while providing reliable financial information to support business decisions. This is a great opportunity for a driven Finance Manager seeking genuine ownership within a successful SME, where you can add real value and influence the future of the business. You will also line-manage one member of the finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the balance sheet and its integrity, working confidently to trial balance level
- Prepare and complete monthly management accounts, P&L statements, variance reports and month-end processes to realistic deadlines
- Support the year-end accounts and audit process, working with external accountants where required
- Raise and process sales invoices and manage purchase invoices
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Carry out regular bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Monitor customer accounts, credit control and outstanding payments
- Process supplier payments and manage supplier accounts
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and accounting systems
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and monitor the company's cash position
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for senior management
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Process journals, accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments
- Manage VAT and PAYE, ensuring accurate and timely payments
- Support payroll processes where required
- Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation
- Supervise and develop the finance assistant within the department
- Ensure appropriate financial controls and processes are maintained across the business, continually looking for ways to improve
What We're Looking For
- AAT qualification
- Previous experience in a Finance Manager, Company Accountant, Management Accountant or similar role, ideally within an SME environment
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and processes
- Experience managing month-end and year-end procedures
- Good knowledge of reconciliations, invoicing, VAT, PAYE and financial reporting
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function
- Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with colleagues, customers, suppliers and external accountants
- Strong Excel skills; knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts and Sage 50 Payroll would be a strong advantage
- A practical, common-sense approach, with the confidence to question and improve existing ways of working
