The Wheatsheaf, Henfield is looking for a Chef to join our kitchen team starting immediately - obviously will wait if need to give notice too!
The Wheatsheaf is a busy, well-loved independent countryside pub in Sussex with a strong local following. We pride ourselves on serving quality pub classics, seasonal specials, and fresh ingredients in a warm and welcoming village pub environment.
This role would suit a chef who enjoys working in a busy kitchen, creating great food, and being part of a pub that sits at the heart of the local community.
Job details
- Position: Chef
- Start date: from 18th August onwards
- Hours: Minimum 35 hours per week, with up to 70 hours available during peak season
- Pay: £13–£18 per hour depending on experience
- Paid weekly (week in arrears)
- Shifts: A mix of daytime, evening and weekend shifts as part of the rota

The role
As a chef at The Wheatsheaf, you’ll play a key role in delivering the food our customers know and love.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and cooking dishes to a high standard
- Supporting the smooth running of kitchen service
- Maintaining consistency and quality during busy services
- Helping develop seasonal specials
- Assisting with stock control and ordering
- Maintaining food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
- Supporting catering for events and busy service periods

The Wheatsheaf hosts a range of busy and fun events throughout the year, and the kitchen plays an important role in catering for them. These include:
- Weddings and private events
- Our annual charity tractor runs
- Rodeo Night
- Live music nights and seasonal events
