Rosewood Residence is a 24-bed residential care home in Bedford and we are looking for highly experienced, compassionate and dependable Care Workers to join our team as we prepare to reopen the service.
We are looking for experienced care professionals who take genuine pride in delivering high-quality care and who understand the importance of dignity, safeguarding, medicines management, safe moving and handling, accurate record keeping and person-centred care.
This role is suited to experienced Care Workers who can confidently demonstrate their knowledge, training and practical competence and who are committed to maintaining consistently high standards of care.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Care Worker within a residential care home.
- Previous practical experience in medicines management and medication administration within a residential care home.
- Completed Medicines Management/Medication Administration training and be able to provide a valid training certificate as evidence.
- The ability to demonstrate competence in medicines management and medication administration during the recruitment process.
- Previous experience using the ATLAS Medication Management system.
- Experience of electronic medicines administration and maintaining accurate medication records.
- Previous experience using Person Centred Software (PCS) for electronic care planning and care recording.
- Previous experience of safely administering covert medication within a residential care-home setting, in accordance with an authorised care and medication plan.
- A good understanding of the requirements surrounding covert medication, including mental capacity, best-interests decision-making, appropriate authorisation and accurate documentation.
- Completed Moving and Handling/Manual Handling training and be able to provide a valid training certificate as evidence.
- The ability to demonstrate safe Moving and Handling practice during a practical competency assessment as part of the interview/recruitment process.
- Practical experience of safely supporting residents with mobility, transfers and appropriate Moving and Handling equipment.
- A good standard of spoken and written English.
- The ability to communicate clearly and professionally with residents, relatives, colleagues and healthcare professionals.
- The ability to understand care plans, risk assessments and medication instructions and complete care and medication records accurately.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding adults.
- Experience supporting older people within a residential care environment.

Mandatory Training Requirements

Medicines Management Competency
Safe medicines management is an essential requirement of this role.
Candidates will be required to:
- Provide evidence of completed Medicines Management/Medication Administration training, including a relevant certificate.
- Demonstrate previous practical experience of administering medicines within a residential care home.
- Demonstrate previous experience using ATLAS Medication Management.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of safe medicines administration.
- Understand and accurately use electronic Medication Administration Records.
- Understand the correct handling, storage, administration and recording of medicines.
- Understand procedures relating to medication refusals, omissions, errors and concerns.
- Understand when medicines-related concerns must be escalated.
- Demonstrate their medicines-management knowledge and competency as part of the interview/recruitment process.
Successful candidates will also be required to complete Rosewood Residence's own medicines competency assessment and be formally assessed and signed off as competent before administering medicines independently within the service.
Covert Medication
Applicants must have previous experience of administering covert medication safely within a residential care-home setting.
Candidates must understand that covert medication can only be administered where the appropriate assessment, best-interests decision, authorisation, care planning and documentation are in place.
You will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of:
- Mental capacity assessments.
- Best-interests decision-making.
- Following an authorised covert medication plan.
- Following instructions from relevant healthcare professionals.
- Accurate recording of covert medication administration.
- Recognising when advice or clarification is required from senior staff, the Registered Manager, GP, prescriber, pharmacist or other relevant healthcare professional.
Knowledge and understanding of covert medication may form part of the medicines-management competency assessment during the recruitment process.
Person Centred Software – PCS
Applicants must have previous experience using Person Centred Software (PCS) within a care setting.
You will be expected to confidently and accurately use PCS for areas including:
- Accessing and following residents' care plans.
- Recording care delivered.
- Recording observations and changes in residents' needs.
- Recording food and fluid intake where required.
- Recording personal care and wellbeing information.
- Reviewing relevant risk assessments and care information.
- Completing accurate and timely electronic care records.
- Recording and escalating concerns appropriately.
Accurate and timely record keeping is an essential requirement of this role.
Moving & Handling Competency
Safe Moving and Handling is an essential requirement of this role.
Candidates will be required to:
- Provide evidence of completed Moving and Handling/Manual Handling training, including an appropriate certificate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of safe Moving and Handling principles.
- Understand the importance of following individual Moving and Handling care plans and risk assessments.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of Moving and Handling equipment where relevant.
- Successfully complete a practical Moving and Handling competency assessment as part of the interview/recruitment process.
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory evidence of training and demonstration of the required level of competency.
Your Role
As a Care Worker at Rosewood Residence, you will play an important role in providing safe, compassionate and person-centred care to residents.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality personal care and support in accordance with individual care plans.
- Supporting residents with washing, dressing, continence care and other personal care needs.
- Supporting residents to maintain their independence wherever possible.
- Treating every resident with dignity, privacy, respect and compassion.
- Supporting residents with eating and drinking where required.
- Supporting residents with mobility and transfers safely and in accordance with individual care plans and risk assessments.
- Using Moving and Handling equipment correctly and safely within your assessed competency.
- Observing residents and promptly reporting changes in their health, wellbeing or behaviour.
- Completing care records accurately and promptly using Person Centred Software (PCS).
- Administering and supporting residents with medicines only when appropriately trained, assessed and signed off as competent.
- Using the ATLAS Medication Management system accurately and safely.
- Administering covert medication only where appropriately authorised and in accordance with the resident's documented care and medication plan.
- Ensuring medicines are handled, stored, administered and recorded safely.
- Reporting medication errors, omissions, refusals or concerns immediately.
- Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns promptly.
- Supporting residents with meaningful activities, social interaction and emotional wellbeing.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

This position is offered on a zero-hours contract, with shifts offered according to the needs of the service.
Applicants should be flexible and willing to work a range of shifts, which may include:

- Bank holidays
Availability of hours will vary according to service requirements.
Pay
£14.00–£14.50 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated competency.
