Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Part-Time After-School Playworker Supervisor to lead our after-school activities and support the Service Manager during the Easter and Summer Playscheme. In this role, you will oversee a small team of playworkers, ensure the delivery of fun, safe, and inclusive play sessions, and support children’s social and emotional development.
The Playworker Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for children after school and during the school holidays deputise for the Service Manager during their absences to maintain the service's smooth operation.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of part-time playworkers during after-school sessions
- Plan and organise engaging activities that cater to diverse needs, including children
- Supervision & Leadership
- Oversee and ensure the safety and well-being of children during play sessions, trips, and outings.
Administrative Duties
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, sharing ideas for activities and service improvements.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance registers, accident and incident reports, and a daily diary.
- Assist in implementing the statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education, Play, Work and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Oversee administrative tasks such as health and safety checklists, menu planning, daily diary, staff rota and petty cash records.
- Support fundraising efforts and report on service capacity and activity updates.
Play Work & Child Development
- Plan and deliver a variety of structured and free play activities, including arts, sports, drama, and educational sessions, ensuring alignment with national standards and child development principles.
- Promote inclusive play opportunities that cater to different ages, needs, and abilities.
- Encourage children’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative development.
- Provide tailored support for children with additional needs, ensuring inclusivity across the service
- Act as a positive role model, fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
- Ensure play activities align with the EYFS framework for children aged 4–6.
Health & Safety
- Conduct daily safety checks of play areas, equipment, and facilities.
- Implement risk assessments and follow health and safety policies.
- Ensure food hygiene standards are met when preparing refreshments.
- Respond promptly to any incidents, taking necessary action and reporting accordingly.
- Actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in attendance, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe the organisation’s policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm.
Liaison & Communication
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, carers, and external agencies.
- Encourage parental involvement in activities and keep them informed about their child’s progress.
- Represent the service in external meetings with schools, social services, and community groups.
- Collaborate with other childcare projects to share best practices and enhance service delivery.
- Supervise play staff, volunteers, and work experience students, providing guidance and support.
- Organise staff rotas, ensuring adequate staffing levels at all times and providing cover where necessary
- Monitor and assess staff performance, identifying training and development needs.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels by liaising with the Service Manager regarding cover.
- Ensure the safe supervision of children during school collection, outings and activities, prioritising their well-being
- Experience in childcare, teaching, or related roles with children aged 4–12 years
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team
- Knowledge of child safeguarding policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus
- Ability to work flexibly during after school hours on weekdays
- Passionate about supporting children's development through play-based activities
