Support Worker – Autism & Complex Needs (Part-Time)
Location: Boston
Hours: 6 hours per week initially
Working Pattern: Mondays & Fridays, 7:45 am – 10:45 am (with the opportunity for additional hours as the role develops)
About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable and experienced Support Worker to provide one-to-one support for our 16-year-old son, who has severe autism and complex needs.
This role is centred around developing a trusting, positive relationship with him. Initially, you will support him at home, helping him feel safe, comfortable and confident in your company. As this relationship develops, the aim is to gradually introduce community activities, enabling him to enjoy experiences such as:
- Trips to the cinema
- Shopping
- Swimming
- Visits to the park
- Other enjoyable community activities
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to a young person's life by helping him build confidence, independence and trust at his own pace.
Support and Training
You will not be working alone. You will initially work alongside an experienced support worker who already has an excellent relationship with our son. They will help you understand his communication style, routines, sensory needs and strategies that work best for him, ensuring you feel fully supported as you settle into the role.
Essential Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience supporting children or young people with autism and additional special educational needs.
- Has experience managing challenging behaviours in a calm, confident and positive manner.
- Is patient, caring and understanding.
- Can build trusting relationships over time.
- Is reliable, consistent and committed to providing high-quality support.
- Can work well as part of a small team and follow established support strategies.
Desirable
- Experience with non-verbal or minimally verbal individuals.
- Experience supporting people with sensory processing needs.
- Full UK driving licence (if community outings become part of the role).
