Where will you be working?
At M Group we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Procurement team for our Energy division. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Procurement Specialist, you’ll lead high-value complex sourcing from pre-construction through mobilisation, delivering best-in-class procurement to secure capacity, value and pace. You'll source, tender and negotiate subcontracts, goods and services while ensuring full compliance with our procurement policies and procedures whilst enrusing client specific requirements and those of the Great Grid Partnership Enterprise are adhered to both internally and externally within the supply chain.
Your contributions will underpin successful projects, robust risk management and the delivery of measurable cost improvements across the business.
This is a hybrid role based in one of our regional offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Stevenage, Newport) including regular collaboration with our partners in GGP Enterprise offices in Birmingham.
This role reports directly in to the Procurement Manager and your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support project requirements & promote alignment with divisional goals.
- Manage key supplier relationships, ensuring optimal performance, risk mitigation, and compliance.
- Support the commercial function with subcontract management, ensuring performance and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Analyse procurement data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
- Optimise cost management strategies for high-value sub-contract procurement.
- Manage robust procurement schedules by preparing and issuing RFQs & ITT’s aimed a delivering best value.
- Conduct structured evaluations of quotations and tenders, ensuring compliance with company standards and contractual requirements.
- Lead negotiations for high-complexity, high-value goods & services.
- Support or lead negotiation and placing of subcontracts in alignment with project budgets & programme and with legal, regulatory & company standards.
- Support the transition from contract award to project mobilisation.
- Support the identification and mitigation of supply, commercial, and regulatory risks associated with subcontract procurement.
- Ensure compliance with commercial management systems and procurement governance in alignment with our health and safety culture and ESG objectives
What you'll bring:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement or a related role.
- Experience buying subcontracts with working knowledge of NEC3 & NEC4 subcontract forms.
- Strong commercial acumen: scoping, tendering, evaluation, negotiation and contract placement.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).
- Data analysis, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Experience managing multiple deadlines and tasks.
Desireable:
- Studying toward or interest in CIPS or RICS
