About the Role
Fair Close is expanding its successful Meals on Wheels service across Newbury and Thatcham and is looking to recruit a dedicated and organised Meals on Wheels Coordinator to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference in the local community by helping ensure vulnerable older people receive nutritious meals alongside an important daily welfare check.
As one of two Meals on Wheels Coordinators, you will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day operation of the service, ensuring freshly cooked hot lunches are accurately prepared, organised and dispatched for delivery by our team of volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily distribution of Meals on Wheels deliveries.
- Prepare and organise meal delivery boxes for volunteer drivers.
- Create and maintain driver route sheets.
- Coordinate volunteer rotas and delivery schedules.
- Record and reconcile customer payments.
- Liaise closely with the kitchen team to ensure accurate and up-to-date meal information.
- Answer the Meals on Wheels mobile phone during delivery rounds.
- Respond to customer and volunteer queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Escalate and respond appropriately to any welfare concerns identified during daily deliveries.
- Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient running of the service.
- Occasionally undertake meal deliveries at short notice when volunteer cover is unavailable.
About You
We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills, a positive attitude and a genuine desire to support older people within our community.
The successful candidate will be:
- Reliable, proactive and able to use their own initiative.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communicating by telephone and in person.
- Numerate and accurate when recording information and payments.
- Friendly and approachable when working with volunteers, customers and colleagues.
- Committed to delivering excellent customer service and support.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good administrative and organisational skills.
- Confident telephone manner.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Genuine empathy and commitment to supporting vulnerable older people.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of HubSpot or other CRM systems (training will be provided).
- Experience working with volunteers, community services or older people.
Training and Compliance
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Complete an enhanced DBS check prior to appointment.
- Undertake Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 training.
- Complete Allergen Awareness training.
- Complete Safeguarding training.
(All mandatory training will be provided following appointment.)
