We have new opportunities for Lairage Operatives to join our friendly team in Llanidloes, Wales.
Working Hours / Shift pattern:
5 weeks rota
Week 1 - 4 – 5:45am start until end of production (Mon-Fri)
Week 5 – 12:00pm – 20:00 (Sun-Thurs) *this shift is required one in 5 weeks
Pay Rate: Competitive
Key Responsibilities:
-
Responsible for Animal Welfare, Health & Safety, Hygiene and Operational matters within the lairage, and raise any concerns with the Lairage Supervisor and/or Senior Animal Welfare Officer in the first instance.

Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a manner to operate & comply with the Animal Welfare Management Systems and Health & Safety procedures.

Ensure effective and efficient movement of livestock through the lairage into the abattoir in accordance with the relevant Animal Welfare Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Liaise with the producers & be ‘first point’ of contact with delivery to the site of livestock & where necessary enforce ‘visitors’ site rules.

Liaise with the Abattoir to ensure that the department operates in accordance with production levels & demands.

Liaise, when required with internal departments and external governing bodies such as OVS, MHS and DEFRA personnel to ensure site compliance.

Job rotate effectively as assigned/directed by the Lairage Supervisor to ensure departmental flexibility.

Comply effectively with the site’s procedure of checking the pen/stock cards.

Undertake assigned daily duties in a manner to ensure continual adherence to certification requirements whilst ensure that customer brand integrity is not compromised.

To undertake such reasonable tasks, commensurate with the role and responsibilities that may from time to time be allocated.
You Will Need to be:

calm and with a logical approach, with the ability to build strong relationships to gain the trust and confidence of others through excellent communications skills with people at all levels.

Knowledge of the Health & Safety Regulations is desirable within this role

experienced in manual handling and working with livestock is desirable

numeracy, literacy and basic IT skilled
Qualifications:

WATOK (essential) *training to gain this on site*
