B. W. May & Son Ltd is looking for an experienced Bricklayer to join our directly employed workforce.
We are an established building contractor with around 50 in-house tradespeople, carrying out construction, refurbishment, conservation and heritage projects across Kent and the South East.
Due to our current workload, with confirmed projects continuing into the new year, we are looking for a skilled and reliable bricklayer with experience in traditional lime work.
The Role
You will work across a varied range of projects, including listed buildings, historic properties, churches, schools, residential properties and commercial buildings.
Your duties will include:
- New brickwork and blockwork
- Traditional lime mortar work
- Lime pointing and repointing
- Brick and masonry repairs
- Underpinning and structural repair works
- Rebuilding walls, piers and chimneys
- Forming openings and installing lintels
- Extensions and structural alterations
- Matching existing brickwork and mortar finishes
- Working from drawings and specifications
- Maintaining a high standard of workmanship
- Working safely and keeping work areas tidy
- Coordinating with site managers and other trades
The Right Candidate
You should have:
- Strong bricklaying experience
- Proven experience working with lime mortar
- Good knowledge of traditional and modern construction methods
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good attention to detail
- A reliable and professional approach
- A full UK driving licence
- Your own basic hand tools
Experience working on listed buildings, conservation projects, heritage properties and structural repair works would be a strong advantage.
Relevant qualifications such as an NVQ or City & Guilds in Bricklaying would be beneficial, although practical experience and quality of workmanship will also be considered.
