Branch Manager – New Branch Opening

M&J Roofing Supplies Ltd is a successful, family-run independent roofing merchant with an established customer base and a strong reputation within the roofing industry.
We are now opening a new branch in Winnersh and are looking for an ambitious, hands-on Branch Manager to help get the branch up and running and drive it forward.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants genuine responsibility. You will not simply be walking into an established branch with an existing customer base and team already in place. We are looking for someone who can help us set up, build and grow the new branch from the ground up.
You will play a major part in getting the branch ready for opening, helping to establish the right stock holding, building a strong team, developing relationships with local roofing contractors and customers, and driving sales as the branch grows.
We want someone commercially minded who understands that a successful branch needs the right stock, good customer service, strong relationships and a team that works well together.
The Role
As Branch Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running and development of the Winnersh branch.
You will work closely with the company owners during the branch set-up and beyond. Your role will involve helping to get the branch ready to trade, establishing the correct stock profile and building the customer base from the beginning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Helping to set up and launch the new branch
- Helping to establish the right stock holding for the local market
- Managing stock levels and ordering products
- Monitoring stock movement and ensuring popular products are available
- Working with suppliers and the company owners to develop the branch product range
- Managing stock control and reducing unnecessary overstock or shortages
- Building and managing a new branch team
- Recruiting, training and developing staff as the branch grows
- Taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the branch
- Driving sales and actively developing new business
- Building relationships with local roofing contractors, builders and trade customers
- Identifying opportunities to win new customers and increase sales
- Developing relationships with existing customers and encouraging repeat business
- Leading from the front and maintaining high standards of customer service
- Dealing with trade and domestic customer enquiries face to face, by telephone and by email
- Advising customers on roofing materials and associated products
- Arranging and coordinating customer deliveries
- Ensuring the branch is well organised, clean, safe and ready for trade
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety
- Managing branch paperwork and administration
- Forward planning and preparing for busy periods
- Monitoring the performance and development of the branch
- Acting as a key holder for the branch
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a confident, commercially minded and trustworthy manager who is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions.
You will ideally have experience within the roofing, builders' merchant or wider trade supply industry.
The successful applicant should have:
- Previous management or senior supervisory experience
- A strong understanding of sales and customer development
- Experience of building and maintaining customer relationships
- A proven ability to drive sales and develop new business
- Experience of managing stock and ordering products
- An understanding of stock levels, stock movement and product availability
- Experience of building, managing and motivating a team
- Good knowledge of roofing materials, building materials or the construction trade
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Good paperwork and administrative skills
- The ability to plan ahead and manage a busy workload
- The confidence to make decisions and solve problems
- A hands-on approach to management
- The ability to communicate with a wide range of people
- The desire to take ownership and pride in the success of the branch
Roofing industry experience would be highly beneficial. However, we would also be interested in speaking with experienced managers from builders' merchants or other relevant trade supply businesses.

Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 7:30am–5:00pm
Saturday: 8:00am–12:00pm
