Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Mainstream Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive educational setting, providing tailored academic and pastoral support to learners aged 16–19.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to help students access learning, overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their full potential within a mainstream college environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting learners to succeed both academically and personally.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group learning support to students aged 16–19.
- Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Assist learners in understanding lesson content and completing classroom activities.
- Encourage learner participation, confidence, independence, and engagement.
- Provide academic, pastoral, and wellbeing support where required.
- Adapt support strategies to meet individual learner needs.
- Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Support students during lessons, transitions, and college activities.
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and wider college teams to ensure students receive appropriate support.
- Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Previous experience working within a Further Education (FE) college is essential.
- GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Enhanced DBS
- Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, proactive, and supportive approach to working with young people.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and professionals.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a busy college team.
