Job Type: Permanent – Part-time
Salary: £12.71 per hour (depending on experience)
Schedule: Day shifts, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Join Our Friendly Care Home Team
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our dedicated catering team within our friendly nursing home. You will play a vital role in ensuring our residents receive nutritious, high-quality meals while helping to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and safety.
Previous care home experience is not essential as full training will be provided. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a genuine willingness to support our residents and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Cook with the preparation of lunches, evening meals and desserts.
- Prepare vegetables, salads and other basic food items.
- Serve meals as required.
- Wash dishes, kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Keep all kitchen areas clean, tidy and well organised.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and infection prevention standards.
- Receive, check and correctly store food deliveries.
- Monitor food temperatures and rotate stock correctly.
- Dispose of waste safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Work in line with Food Hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and Health & Safety regulations.
- Support the kitchen team during busy meal service periods.

- Able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen.
- Good understanding of cleanliness and food safety.
- Previous kitchen, catering or food preparation experience is desirable but not essential.
- Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable; training can be provided.
- Flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Shift Pattern
- 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and / or 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm
- Weekend working (on a rota basis).
- Bank holiday working (on a rota basis).
- Overtime may be available.
