Communication and MDT working A significant part of the role involves communicating complex, sensitive information to patients, parents and carers — including diagnosis of hearing loss, implant suitability, and managing expectations. This includes joint working with speech and language therapists, psychologists, teachers of the deaf, and ENT/AVM consultants, as well as liaising with CI manufacturers and external agencies.
Management and leadership The post holder takes responsibility for day-to-day organisation within the paediatric CI service — including rostering, managing leave and sickness, stock ordering, and ensuring sufficient clinical cover. They line manage junior staff through supervision, appraisal, and objective setting, and support recruitment.
Education and research Training and supervising junior audiologists and students is expected, as is contributing to audit, research, and CPD. There is an expectation of presenting or publishing at a national or international level over time.
Operational Timely and accurate record-keeping in Trust systems (Epic, AuditBase etc.), report writing for GPs and local caregivers, monitoring waiting lists and referral trends, and ensuring equipment calibration and health and safety compliance.
- Take a lead in planning, designing and producing digital and print content to share the innovative research taking place across the UCLH and UCL Joint Research Office (JRO) and the BRC.
- Create and edit photographic and video content and oversee contractors on media projects.
- Support design of digital and print communications materials for staff across the JRO
- Write and publish news stories, newsletters, social media posts, UCLH intranet and new channels, such as digital screens across our hospitals
- Work with the Research Communications Manager to implement a new research communications strategy, with a focus on supporting research inclusion and growing our commercial research portfolio
- Embed consistent and meaningful evaluation of digital engagement and social media.
- Proactively monitor trends in digital engagement and social media use across central government, the NHS, the wider public sector and elsewhere to identify and then apply best practices
- Support team members with the planning, promotion and delivery of community engagement events and research open days
