Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and detail-focused HR & Compliance Manager to lead our HR function and ensure our employment practices meet all legal, regulatory and organisational requirements.
In this important role, you will oversee day-to-day HR operations, strengthen our policies and compliance systems, and support managers in creating a positive, fair and well-managed workplace. You will use accurate employee data and effective HR systems to improve recruitment, onboarding, record-keeping and workforce planning.

Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining HR policies and procedures in line with employment law and organisational needs.
- Advising managers on employee relations, conduct, attendance, capability and performance.
- Planning and supporting workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances and appeals.
- Managing safer recruitment, employee records, contracts, onboarding and probation reviews.
- Maintaining accurate HR systems and ensuring employee information is complete, secure and up to date.
- Monitoring changes in employment law and recommending necessary updates.
- Supporting safeguarding procedures, referrals and allegations management.
- Maintaining staff-training and compliance records.
- Conducting HR, safer-recruitment and compliance audits.
- Supporting Ofsted readiness and monitoring any resulting actions.
- Analysing workforce information, including absence, turnover, recruitment, training and employee-relations trends.
- Preparing clear reports and recommendations for senior management.
- Communicating HR and compliance updates effectively across the organisation.
- Coordinating external HR, legal or safeguarding advice where specialist support is required.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in an HR advisory, management or compliance-focused role.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR best practice and workplace compliance.
- Experience managing or supporting employee-relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary procedures, grievances, absence, capability and performance.
- Experience developing, reviewing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
- A good understanding of safer recruitment, including references, right-to-work checks, employment history and DBS requirements.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage confidential records, deadlines and multiple ongoing cases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to advise and influence managers at all levels.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify risks, inconsistencies and areas of non-compliance.
- Experience analysing workforce information such as absence, turnover, recruitment, training and employee-relations trends.
- Confidence conducting audits, preparing reports and presenting clear recommendations to senior management.
- The ability to remain impartial, professional and composed when managing sensitive or challenging situations.
- Competence using HR systems, Microsoft Office and digital record-keeping platforms.
- A commitment to safeguarding children and promoting a positive, fair and compliant workplace culture.
- CIPD Level 5 or an equivalent HR qualification is desirable.
- Safeguarding or DSL experience is desirable.
- Previous experience within childcare, education, healthcare or another regulated environment is desirable.

Pay: £38,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
